Parity’s mission is to acquire and rehabilitate abandoned properties in West Baltimore to create affordable homeownership opportunities.
Parity reinvests in distressed neighborhoods by acquiring and rehabilitating abandoned properties – the relics of discriminatory housing policy – to create attainable homeownership opportunities targeted towards entry-level, first-time homebuyers. Parity practices equitable development by acting as a conduit for existing residents to determine the outcome of development in their neighborhoods.
Parity’s work in anti-displacement includes offering the right of first refusal to the existing community to purchase or rent our homes, working with a pro-bono law team to ensure that existing homeowners (particularly elders) have a will and testament in place to pass down their homes to next of kin, assisting residents with applying to the tax homestead to prevent increasing property values from proportionately raising property taxes, and creating mechanisms and forums for residents to voice and take control of how development is impacting them.

“First-in patient capital is the most important in the entrepreneurship journey, and it's also the most difficult capital to raise. For BIPOC, women, and LGTBQ+ entrepreneurs, those barriers to capital are magnified. Innovation Works and Ignite Capital are crucial to the social entrepreneurship ecosystem because they are working to shift systems and remove barriers that stifle Baltimore's high-impact social innovators."
